4 Guidelines for Great SMOOTHIES

Updated: Sep 27, 2018

Make a great tasting smoothie that's ACTUALLY healthy for you....

Smoothies are where it’s at, people. It’s basically health in a glass.

    ✅ easy

    ✅ delicious

    ✅ nutritious

    ✅ portable

Smoothies can also serve as insurance of sorts to make sure you get some F&V in, even if you’re busy or on go. You can rest easy knowing you got SOME good stuff in!

Just don’t make em like an idiot. If your smoothie is 90% fruit and juice it’s basically a sugar bomb. Yes, yes... it probably tastes good, but that’s not what we’re going for here.

I try to make sure my smoothies are at least half greens of some sort, and then I’ll add fruit, maybe some more veggies, and then other good stuff like kombucha, flax, chia, turmeric— hell, whatever I have on hand I’ll throw in the mix.

I’ll generally make a big batch in my Vitamix and then save the excess in a half gallon mason jar for the next couple of days. Saves time and dishes, and I know I have something quick and healthy on hand whenever I’m running between meetings. (#winning)

Bottom line: healthy doesn’t have to be hard. Make nourishing your body and mind a priority (#selflove), but figure out how to make it work for YOU. And, if that means blending shit up and consuming it in drinkable form on the go because that’s what’s realistic for your life right now, more power to ya. 💪

Why?         it makes individual portion sizes, less expensive, one-year warranty

      Cost:         $100

4 SIMPLE GUIDELINES

Think of these as the guard rails, but play freely with ingredients, using these as guides.

    1) Fill AT LEAST HALF full of greens

    2) Fill remaining lesser half with fruit of your choice

    3) Add fat (i.e. avocado)

    4) Fill with liquid (half kombucha or juice, then half water)

*juice is basically sugar water + some nutrients... use sparingly

BENEFITS

- great way to ensure you get your greens everyday… and probiotic... and fat…and everything really...

- fat (i.e. avocado) cuts the glycemic index of the fruit

- kombucha = probiotic = increases good bacteria in your gut; also cuts through the (somewhat) bitterness of the greens

Tips and Tricks

(1) Switch up your fruit.

Eat seasonally! variety = good because you get different micronutrients the time...AND you won't get bored eating the same damn thing all .

(2) Embrace trial and error.

You will make GREAT smoothies and you will make ones that are just okay.. but you’ll still drink them because they’re good for you. start to figure out combinations you really like, and the types of ratios of Kombucha / juice to water that you like...

(3) Make a big batch or prepare in advance.

I make a big pitcher of smoothie and save in a ½ gallon Mason Jar or Nalgene for the next couple of days. You can also prepare smoothie kits, prepare the night before so you can just grab it and go.

My smoothie THIS week:

-organic Power Greens (kale, spinach, swiss chard)

    -3 organic apples (tart)

    -organic chia seeds

    -turmeric (anti-inflammatory herb)

    -Kombucha (1/2)

    -water (1/2)
