Midterms are Coming Up

I had such an amazing time in DC last week, and as always — my trip was filled with much of the same stuff it always is when I’m in town. Meeting new friends and seeing old, eating amazing food, leaving a conference ridiculously inspired, and getting to see family. But there’s one more thing I always do whenever I’m in DC.

I always make it down to National Mall.

This is where all the monuments and museums are. I like to go alone. That way, I can stop and look at stuff, really take it and take my time— without feeling rushed.

I took this picture on Monday evening. The crowds had pretty much left for the day, leaving only a handful of people moseying around National Mall.

It was serene. Still. Absolutely beautiful.

It’s hard not to be filled with emotion, in a place like this. At a time like this.

Politics, and the state of our country, are bit crazy right now. Lots of divisiveness, lots of heat, lots of anger. It’s easy, nowadays, to forget that we have so much more in common, than we do that makes us different.

Things can and will get better. But only if we decide to make it so.

Civic engagement is a core tenet of our democracy — of our country. There are infinite ways to get involved, and I really don’t care HOW you choose to be involved… I just care that you ultimately DO.

The midterms are coming up in 15 days.

Make sure you register and make sure you make it to the polls.
